I'm sure those of you who were fans of comic 'Crazy Duck' have probably noticed that I haven't updated in like... over a year. Here's why. I got bored. I would really, really still like to finish the story one day, and I really do think I will. But for now, it's going to continue being on an very indefinite hiatus.
You see, Crazy Duck is a comic I technically worked on for almost eight years. It's a very personal project of mine, the first comic I ever put a lot of work into. Hours and hours and hours went into making those 400+ strips. When I think about where the story was going, the secrets and twists that were coming up, I do get annoyed with myself for not just plowing on through. But the thing is, I wasn't having that much fun doing it anymore. I don't know if it was because how small the audience seemingly was (though I appreciated all of you who did read it and commented and supported it), not that I need a giant audience to read my work... if that was a huge deal to me I wouldn't have kept working on it for as long as I did; or if it was just fatigue from working with the same characters and places and concepts for all those years. I mean, I started the original version BEFORE high school, and the last strip went up right before my fourth year of college. That's kind of a long time.
I've also already grown bored of my journal comic 'And That's What Happened.' They were supposed to just be these quick little comics, but I'm not capable of doing that apparently. They were taking hours to do. And so it became a chore. I'm not saying I'm done with my journal comic, but it might be a while before I update it again.
'Billy Johnson' however... I seriously cannot remember having this much fun drawing a comic. I literally get excited when I come up with new strips and stories. They're so much fun to write and draw. And I feel like they just keep getting better, almost with every update. There's just so much freedom with it. I can set them anyway. I can make them as long as I want. I've got big things planned for Billy and Barrace in the near future. There will be thirty strips by the end of December, and then in January I'll start posting the first of many multiple update long comic book size stories.
So that's all there is to it really. In the (maybe far?) future, I hope to return to 'Crazy Duck.' I want you guys to eventually see what secrets Gary's past still held. What happens between Mike and Judy. What happens between Mike and Gunther even. The reasons for why Mr. Swifter has so much difficulty loving his son. And what type of animal Ted is.
